Did Frelimo create “Al Shabaab”? – Cadernos IESE nº 18E

Cadernos IESE nº 18e (the English version of Cadernos IESE nº 18p), by Sérgio Chichava, analyzes how the existence of mineral resources and the impact of the “Al Shabaab” war against the Mozambican state influenced the October 2019 elections in Cabo Delgado. Thus, the article explores the probable reasons that explain the emergence and motivations of “Al Shabaab”, by questioning the speeches of candidates from the three main political parties in Mozambique, namely Filipe Nyusi, from Frelimo, Ossufo Momade, from Renamo, and Daviz Simango, from MDM.
